Aet, Neverwhere is 350 pages long & I finished it in one day. I loved it, of course. Now, what to read next?

Actually, now you need to watch Neverwhere! (Well, I liked it... and you should check out the Neverwhere comic too.)

And for some reason, Murder Mysteries just popped into my head. If you've never read that/seen it in comic form, then you should. It's one of my favorite short story to audio to comic book creations. I've liked each one.

I have to think about it for a bit, as my own current reading binge is of no use for suggestions for you.

I remembered a remark someone dropped on LJ and took a tramcar to the railway-station market where I bought half dozen of Russian crime/chicklit books by Tatyana Ustinova (but not the one about what this English language story is written: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/3596835.stm ).

I am amused by her occasional descriptions of big breasted school officials or corpulent (and very competent) violet eyed administrative assistants standing in middle of offices irresolutely "like an iceberg that has decided not to sink the "Titanic""

Anyway, I have to think about English language suggestions.

You could, of course, stress your stand about the recent "diplomatic spat" between Russia and Georgia ( http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/5415388.stm ) and read some Boris Akunin (whose civilian name is Grigory Chkhartishvili) - I guess you would not have my kind of possibility of showing support by drinking some Georgian wine if not feeling like reading more about Fandorin).

I do not know why, but the other suggestions that came to my mind were also crime fiction for some reason: "In a Dry Season" (this one I liked best myself when I read it some time ago) by Peter Robinson, "The Falls" by Ian Rankin or - this one was slow motion, so unless you are in hospital like situation with nothing else to do, I am not sure - "Blackwater" by Kerstin Ekman.
